Simple Living

How I long for a simple life…a life that doesn’t include rushing around like a bunch of wild maniacs.

How does one go about obtaining this sort of life style and what does it really involve?

I guess one could start out by purging their dwelling. By getting rid of things that they do not use or even want. Yes, I think I should start by getting rid of my clutter. Now, I really shouldn’t have too much since we moved and got rid of a bunch of things, but you know how it seems to multiply on its own. So, this is where I am going to start.

I sometimes wish that I was an Amish woman, but they do not have the same religious beliefs as the Catholic Church, so that really isn’t possible. Oh, but to not have phones ringing. No televison, people, internet(not too sure if I really want to give that one up), etc to distract us. It is so appealing to me. To live like Laura Ingalls…what an adventure that would be.

We are blessed in the fact that we do have land that we can use to become more self-sufficient. We have fresh eggs, and they are so much better than store bought. Our cow will be having her baby anytime this month and we will have raw milk. So, we can do our little part to become a simple living family as well as being gentle to the environment.  Although to be honest I just don’t buy into all of the “global warming” bunk.  Yes, we need to take care of the Earth because God left it in our hands, but I think the Earth has cycles that rise and fall just like all things in nature.
I told Brandon not long ago that I wouldn’t mind using lanterns to light up the house…I don’t think I have sold him on that idea…yet.

  1. I know how you feel. I too long for a more simple life. My first step would be to throw out our TV, but I would have a full scale revolt on my hands if I did!

  2. Really enjoyed your post, Lisa! I would love to live more of an Amish life, too… Or Little House… Or even Waltons! (Yeah, let’s go with that one…I do enjoy indoor plumbing. ;) hehe).

You’re right about global warming, too. We’re actually in an “inter-glacial period” … You can look it up on wikipedia if you’re interested in further info. Gotta love how politicians and the media hype things up, eh?

You’re so blessed to have access to so many self-sustaining options! I hope my hubby and I can be at that point someday! :)
